Time left in your 2016 flexPTO bank? Convert up to 40 hours to grandfathered sick time at year end
Upon the end of fiscal year 2016, any staff with flexPTO hours remaining can again transfer up to 40 hours into their grandfathered sick time banks. This transfer will happen automatically. You do not need to take any action.
The amount transferred is based on the remaining balance in the employee’s account at the close of the current fiscal year on June 30.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) follows a plan where accrued FlexPTO time must be used by the end of a fiscal year or it will not carry forward. You then have the entire year to use this time to cover hours when you are out of the office due to illness, vacation, holidays or personal business.
“This PTO-to-sick bank transfer acknowledges that not all staff can take their time off and allows for a cushion of time to be available in the event of an illness or injury,” said Traci Nordberg, chief human resources officer for VUMC.
The days transferred forward can be used according to current grandfathered sick policy, including any future time necessary to cover days before short-term disability goes into effect.
