Important News about your Aetna Health Fund
Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Vanderbilt University transitioned to separate legal and financial entities on April 30. Overall, thanks to the hard work and commitment of hundreds of people involved in the process, the transition has gone well.
However, as with any change of this complexity and magnitude, there can be unanticipated issues that require input from multiple parties to achieve resolution.
One issue as communicated by our health benefit administrator, Aetna, is that some employees/dependents who received health care services after April 30 at Vanderbilt and from other non-Vanderbilt health care providers may have received incorrect Explanation of Benefit (EOB) statements from Aetna and/or incorrect billing statements from their provider.
This was primarily due to system configuration and timing issues related to implementation of:
- New Vanderbilt Member IDs
- Timing of the loading of deductible/coinsurance accumulators in Aetna’s system
- Vanderbilt Medical Group provider setup issues in Aetna’s system
Aetna has already identified and corrected most Vanderbilt employee claims and is reprocessing and reissuing corrected EOBs to these individuals. This will also result in members receiving an updated billing statement if there was a change in patient responsibility from the originally issued EOB.
