VUMC in the news

A roundup of a few recent stories from the press about Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

A CNN story on the problem of noise in hospitals, and the problems it causes patients, quotes  Joseph Schlesinger, M.D., assistant professor of Anesthesiology.

John Graves, Ph.D., assistant professor of Health Policy and Medicine, is quoted in a CNN story about how Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell acknowledged that if Republicans can’t pass a health care bill, they would have to do something to shore up the Affordable Care Act markets for next year. Graves has also spoken to The New York Times, Bloomberg News and Managed Care magazine.

The Associated Press moved a story, headlined Science Says: Not all cancers need treatment right away, that quotes David Penson, M.D., Paul V. Hamilton, M.D. and Virginia E. Howd Professor of Urologic Oncology and chair of Urologic Surgery. The AP piece was picked up by many outlets, including The New York Times.

Healthline reporter Liz Pratt interviewed William Schaffner, M.D., professor of Preventive Medicine, for a story about West Nile Virus.

Tennessean reporter Holly Fletcher, WPLN Nashville Public Radio reporter Emily Siner and WKRN News 2 interviewed C. Wright Pinson, MBA, M.D., Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer for VUMC, for stories about Walgreens and VUMC announcing that a subsidiary of VUMC will operate and provide all clinical services at 14 retail health clinics within Walgreens stores across Middle Tennessee. Nashville Business Journal and Nashville Post were among the other outlets covering the story.
