U.S. Halts Haiti Patient Flights

Update from C. Wright Pinson, M.D., MBA, deputy vice chancellor for Health Affairs:

Although VUMC has not received any patients from Haiti following the recent earthquake, University and Medical Center officials have been monitoring the situation.

Today we received confirmation the Department of Defense has halted all patient flights from Haiti. This is due to several issues including lack of federal policy or means of reimbursement of health care costs for hospitalization of these patients. These actions will require Presidential action prior to resuming any Haiti patient evacuation activities.

Medical Center officials will continue to monitor the situation.
