VUMC to Participate in Multi-State National Disaster Medical System Exercise
Vanderbilt University Medical Center will be one of many medical centers participating in a National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) Exercise hosted by the United States Department of Veteran’s Affairs on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
During this exercise, states across the southeast including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee will be testing the federal system used to evacuate medical patients, evacuees, and pets out of disaster areas in the event of an emergency.
VUMC will participate in airport triage and will receive 50 mock patients during the exercise. The VUMC Emergency Operations Plan will be activated for the exercise and the North Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be opened along with the Labor Pool, Bed Management, Discharge, Visitor, and Media Coordination Centers.
The Department of Emergency Preparedness and Vanderbilt Environmental Health and Safety would like to thank everyone in advance for their support for this very important training event.
