In a few weeks you will be invited to participate in the VUMC Culture Survey: Pulse Edition. Last year, the VUMC Culture Survey combined the safety culture survey, the staff engagement survey and the nursing Magnet survey. This year, the survey will only measure staff engagement. Child care needs assessment underway


Human Resources has begun a process to assess child care needs of the VUMC workforce. This includes gaining feedback from those who currently use or plan to use child care in the next few years, holding focus groups, and learning about best practices at other large employers around such things as access, cost, hours, types of care, etc. Read more...

Clinical trial to assess shoulder pain treatments


Nitin Jain, M.D., MSPH, associate professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Orthopaedics, has been awarded a $7.5 million contract to determine whether surgery or non-operative therapy works better for a common age-related injury that costs the health care systems billions of dollars: rotator cuff tears. From "Vanderbilt Medicine": Positive Outlook


When Rachel Fox was 15 years old, the petite, blonde high school sophomore spent most of her time babysitting in her suburban Nashville neighborhood and practicing the piano. For about a year, she noticed she was increasingly hungry and thirsty, frequently urinating and losing weight. She battled fatigue as she plodded along with her school work and piano practice.
