RESEARCH SUMMARY

My research interest encompasses different aspects of clinical epilepsy and EEG. These include differentiating epileptic and non-epileptic seizures, exploring tolerance to anti-epileptic drug effect and evaluation of withdrawal seizures from new antiepileptic drugs.

Nabil J. Azar, M.D., Assistant Professor of Neurology

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Dr. Azar graduated with a B.S. degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, in 1996, and continued through to earn his M.D. degree in 2000.

He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the Washington Hospital Center in 2002, and his neurology residency at Georgetown University in 2005. He served as chief resident in the final year of residency. In 2005, he joined Vanderbilt University as an EEG /epilepsy fellow and later served as chief fellow in 2006.

In July of 2007, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Epilepsy Division. His clinical work is focused on clinical epilepsy and intraoperative monitoring. He is currently the director of the Vanderbilt University Clinical Neurophysiology Training Program as well as the director of the Intraoperative Neuromonitoring program.

Dr. Azar maintains licensure in Tennessee, and is board certified in both Neurology (2006) and Clinical Neurophysiology (2007). Dr. Azar is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, American Epilepsy Society, Tennessee Medical Association, and Lebanese Order of Physician.
