HUTCHISON,
M.D.
Kimberly Hutchison is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and a member of the Sleep Disorders Division. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Dr. Hutchison was born and raised in Overland Park, Kansas, near Kansas City. She received her undergraduate degree from The Colorado College in 1995, where she graduated with Distinction in Biology. She returned to Kansas for her medical training and earned her M.D. from the University of Kansas in Kansas City, KS, in 2000. She completed an internal medicine internship and neurology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. She served as Chief Resident during her final year of neurology training. In 2004 Dr. Hutchison came to Vanderbilt where she served as the first fellow in Sleep Disorders Medicine. She is board certified in Neurology and Sleep Medicine (American Board of Sleep Medicine). Dr. Hutchison joined the facutly at Vanderbilt in May, 2005. She specializes in Sleep Disorders and has a special interest in obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome and sleep in Parkinson's Disease. She sees both adult and pediatric sleep patients. RESEARCH SUMMARY Dr. Hutchison has recently
collaborated with the Institute of Imaging Science and Department of Radiology
to develop the technology of simultaneously acquiring fMRI and EEG data.
This will allow sleep researchers to “see” what changes are
occurring in the brain during different sleep stages. She won a Young
Investigator’s Honorable Mention Award at the American Academy of
Sleep Medicine’s for her abstract entitled ““Cortical
Activation Can Be Visualized During Sleep Using Simultaneous EEG-fMRI”.
