Kimberly Hutchison is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and a member of the Sleep Disorders Division. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Dr. Hutchison was born and raised in Overland Park, Kansas, near Kansas City. She received her undergraduate degree from The Colorado College in 1995, where she graduated with Distinction in Biology. She returned to Kansas for her medical training and earned her M.D. from the University of Kansas in Kansas City, KS, in 2000. She completed an internal medicine internship and neurology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. She served as Chief Resident during her final year of neurology training. In 2004 Dr. Hutchison came to Vanderbilt where she served as the first fellow in Sleep Disorders Medicine. She is board certified in Neurology and Sleep Medicine (American Board of Sleep Medicine). Dr. Hutchison joined the faculty at Vanderbilt in May, 2005. She specializes in all Sleep Disorders and has a special interest in sleep deprivation, obstructive sleep apnea, and restless legs syndrome. She is also interested in education and increasing awareness of the importance of sleep and its disorders. RESEARCH SUMMARY Dr. Hutchison received
an American Sleep Medicine Foundation career advancement award in 2006
for her study entitled, “Neural correlates of adaptation to sleep
deprivation in obstructive sleep apnea - A Pilot Study”. This fMRI
study looks at brain function before and after 24 hours of sleep deprivation
