We Care for Kids Day Offers Free Family Fun

September 24, 2009

The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt will host its 5th annual We Care for Kids Day, a free day of family fun, on Sunday, Sept. 27, from 2-4 p.m.

The event celebrates Middle Tennessee children and the entire community that cares for them. The fun begins at 2 p.m. with wall-to-wall booths full of interactive activities for children of all ages, presented by various areas of Children’s Hospital and other area non-profit groups.

From face-painting to nutrition tips, booths will offer information on topics such as music, physical activity, literacy, safety and health. A special Children’s Stage will showcase local and regional children’s performances, including “Thriller,” performed by the Gordon Jewish Community Center.

Former patients from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) and the Vanderbilt Childhood Cancer Program will reunite with their doctors and nurses at the celebration. Making special guest appearances will be Champ, the Children’s Hospital mascot; Ollie the Otter; and several “Star Wars” characters.

The event will be held at the corner of Children’s Way and 25th Avenue South in Vanderbilt’s Sports Club Field. We Care for Kids Day is sponsored by News 2, 107.5 The River, Nashville Parent, La Ley 1380 AM radio (Spanish) and Telefutura Nashville (Spanish TV).
