Vanderbilt LifeFlight Offers 'Intensive Care Unit' in the Air

April 15, 2010

It is a fast ‘intensive care unit’ in the air – getting critical help to patients as quickly as possible. While nationally this has been the deadliest year for medical helicopters, the only hospital-provided air ambulance program in Middle Tennessee celebrates 25 years of successful operation.

And LifeFlight, operated by Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, has just added more speed to their operation and more changes may be on the way soon.

LifeFlight is negotiating with the U.S. Department of Defense to develop and activate full trauma center resources to the patient in the air. Their new speed is the first step. Barb Cramer has the story in this Vanderbilt Video News Release.
