Resident Application
Vanderbilt participates in the National Residency Matching Program. We ONLY accept applications at the PGY-1 starting level via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) now made available to applicants through U.S. medical schools and the ECFMG.
Four residents are admitted to our categorical orthopaedic residency program each year. Accepted applicants spend their first year in the Vanderbilt Department of General Surgery (six months of general surgery and six months of experience in the surgical specialties). It is not necessary to apply to the surgery department.

Resident Applicant Interviews: January 19 & 26, 2008
We prefer to receive letters of recommendation from orthopaedic physicians with whom you have worked. In addition to your letters of recommendation, please ask each of your recommending physicians to complete one of the performance evaluation forms and submit it to our program. Should a physician opt not to complete the requested from, we would ask that his/her letter include the criteria addressed on our form. The first three letters received will influence our decision of whether or not to extend an invitation to interview.
Click on "Resident Applicant Evaluation Form". Print page 1; link to page 2 from bottom of page 1; print page 2.
Completed evaluation forms may be scanned into ERAS or mailed separately to our education office (address listed below).
An interview is an essential part of our resident selection process. Upon receipt of the credentials mentioned above, the Resident Selection Committee will review all materials carefully and extend interview invitations to selected candidates. Each candidate whose application is complete by October 31 (except for the Dean's letter), will be sent a written response from our Committee. Invitations and letters of regret will be mailed after December 1. Two alternative interview dates will be announced on our invitation. We will arrange interviews for those dates only.
2008 Interview Dates are: January 19 & 26, 2008
