Identification of Latex Allergic Patients|
Provide for the
special needs of
latex allergic
patients by
observing the
policies and
procedures
listed here or
in the patient
resource manual. Also available: Patient and family education, room preparation check list, and product information. |
Latex allergic patients enter the Vanderbilt system through several points of entry, including the Emergency Department, Operative Services, outpatient practice areas, or as a direct admission. It is imperative that the staff member be informed at the time of entry of the patient's allergy to latex. A latex precaution sticker is placed on the patient's medical record when they arrive.

A sticker is placed on the patient's ID band to alert healthcare workers of the
patient's allergy. A sticker will be placed on the patient's clothing in areas where
identification bracelets are not used.
