Identification of Latex Allergic Patients

Provide for the special needs of latex allergic patients by observing the policies and procedures listed here or in the patient resource manual.

Also available: Patient and family education, room preparation check list, and product information.

Latex allergic patients enter the Vanderbilt system through several points of entry, including the Emergency Department, Operative Services, outpatient practice areas, or as a direct admission. It is imperative that the staff member be informed at the time of entry of the patient's allergy to latex.

A latex precaution sticker is placed on the patient's medical record when they arrive.

A sticker is placed on the patient's ID band to alert healthcare workers of the patient's allergy. A sticker will be placed on the patient's clothing in areas where identification bracelets are not used.
