Neuroradiology

Faculty: Tom Dina, M.D. (section chief), Jeff Creasy, M.D. (associate section chief), Bob Kessler, M.D., Curt Wushensky, M.D., Joe Aulino, M.D., Megan Strother, M.D., and Ted Larson, M.D.

The Section of Neuroradiology is currently staffed by seven neuroradiologists. Bob Kessler, works in general neuroradiology approximately one-quarter time, splitting his time with PET research. Ted Larson has introduced sophisticated interventional neuroradiology to this institution. His skills have resulted in a steadily increasing volume of interventional and related procedures. He maintains his special interest in ENT imaging as well. Tom Dina's area of special interest is that of spine and pituitary imaging. Dr. Jeff Creasy's interests are in magnetic resonance angiography, MR perfusion and diffusion studies and PACS. Curt Wushensky oversees pediatric neuro-imaging. Joe Aulino has a special interest in ENT imaging as well as neuro-ophthalmology studies. Our newest member, Megan Strother, does general neuroradiology while sharing her experience with spectroscopy and functional imaging. While each has an area of special interest, in practice, the workload is shared and rotated.

Vanderbilt is well equipped to perform state-of-the-art neuroradiology in all aspects. This includes three 1.5 Tesla MR scanners, one 3.0 Tesla MR scanner, five spiral CT scanners, PET and bi-plane digital angiography. The section supports large, busy Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Orthopedic practices as well as ENT, Ophthalmology, Endocrinology, and virtually all departments that have need of sophisticated neuro imaging.

Imaging and research is supported by a strong radiological sciences division that includes over 20 Ph.D. level basic scientists who support clinical investigation, teach radiological physics and engineering, and participate directly in quality assurance.

This section offers a fellowship in neuroradiology.
