A one year fellowship is offered in women’s imaging. This includes six months of breast imaging and six months rotating among ultrasound areas at Vanderbilt University Hospital, The Vanderbilt Clinic and The Center for Women’s Imaging. Exposure to pelvic MRI is also available. The program provides training in the basic principles and clinical use of mammography, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging in the evaluation of breast disease. A new breast center with all digital mammography and a dedicated magnetic resonance scanner is expected to open by the fall of 2008. The program provides exposure to obstetrical and gynecological as well as general ultrasound. Hands-on experience is encouraged. State-of-the-art Philips, Siemens and GE scanners are available at the different facilities.

The duties of the women’s imaging fellow include supervising and interpreting imaging studies, training radiology residents, medical students and sonography students, performing breast related interventional procedures as well as hysterosalpingograms and sonohysterograms, and conducting conferences. Opportunities for clinical or basic science research are also available.

Medical licensure in the state of Tennessee and Board eligibility in Diagnostic Radiology are prerequisite for this fellowship.

There has been an unexpected opening for a Women’s Imaging Fellowship position beginning July 1, 2009. We welcome applications from qualified applicants who are Radiology Board certified or eligible by this date.
