Splints

In order to properly position burned extremities, the therapist will fabricate a custom splint for the patient to wear. The length of time the splint is worn is determined on an individual basis. The purpose of the splint is to:

  • Support the injured extremity or joint
  • Assist in mobilizing the injured extremity or joint
  • Aid in healing the injured extremity or joint
  • Minimize the occurrence of contractures that often occur to joints that are burned
  • Improve independence in activities of daily living
