4/28/2011 -Gary Gibbons, M.D., director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine, is the featured speaker at the 2011 Dr. Dolores C. Shockley Lecture and Partnership Award event on Wednesday, May 4. His lecture, “Genomic and Social Determinants of Cardiovascular Health Disparities,” will begin at 4 p.m. in 208 Light Hall.
The event, which honors Shockley, professor emerita at Meharry Medical College, includes the presentation of awards to individuals who are involved in partnerships that foster minority scientist career development.
Gibbons conducts research in the fields of vascular biology, genomic medicine and the pathogenesis of vascular diseases. He is committed to expanding the gender and ethnic diversity of biomedicine as well as to eliminating health disparities.
He is an established investigator of the American Heart Association and a member of the Institute of Medicine.
