Upcoming Shade Tree Trot to help raise funds for student-run clinic

3/29/2012 - On Saturday, April 21, at 9 a.m., the Nashville and Vanderbilt communities will participate in the fourth annual Shade Tree Trot, a 5K run and walk through Vanderbilt University’s campus.

The Shade Tree Trot is a family-oriented fun run and walk organized by students with the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Proceeds from the event help support the Shade Tree Clinic, a family health care facility located in East Nashville, also staffed and administered by the school’s students.

The Shade Tree Clinic supports health care needs for those who cannot afford medical care.

The Shade Tree Trot is the culmination of annual fundraising efforts that provide financial support for clinic operations to meet the needs of a growing patient population.

The clinic operates year-round on Tuesday nights and Saturday afternoons and is committed to caring for the whole patient by providing high-quality primary, preventive and specialty care.

The clinic is made possible by the dedication of medical students and volunteer physicians, along with support from Vanderbilt University and donors in the Nashville community.

This year’s run and walk features chip timing on a fast, closed-road course through the Vanderbilt campus. Soul Incision, a band composed of faculty and staff from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, will headline post-race festivities. Registration is $20 for all students and $25 for all other participants. T-shirts are guaranteed for the first 500 registrants.
