3/11/2005 - Richard M. Heller, M.D., professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences and Pediatrics, has been recognized by the American Board of Radiology with its Distinguished Service Award. The honor is bestowed to those who have given years of service and dedication to the board.
It was a completely unexpected honor, and I'm flattered to have been recognized by my colleagues with this award, Heller said.
The award acknowledges Heller's time, expertise and energy given toward the certification process. During the past 30 years, Heller has been selected to serve as an examiner on the Board many times, and he has submitted numerous cases and questions to be used in the exams.
Heller joined the faculty at Vanderbilt in 1975, after serving on the faculty at Johns Hopkins University. He earned his medical degree from Northwestern University and did his postgraduate work at Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital.
He is the author of more than 100 articles and co-author of six books.
