Walk to raise juvenile diabetes research funds

9/14/2007 - Nearly 3 million Americans with type 1, or juvenile, diabetes face a lifelong threat of deadly complications, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and amputation.

To help raise funds for diabetes research, the Middle Tennessee Branch of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is hosting the 2007 Nashville JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park.

Funds raised by the walkathon benefit the JDRF, whose mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Last year, the Middle Tennessee Branch, including walking teams from the Vanderbilt Diabetes Center, raised more than $500,000.
