2/22/2008 - Christine Seidman, M.D., whose work has helped reveal the genetic contributions to cardiovascular disease, will deliver the next Discovery Lecture on Thursday, Feb. 28.
Seidman, professor of Medicine and Genetics at Harvard Medical School and an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, will discuss Mutations to Mechanisms in Cardiovascular Disease at 4 p.m. in 208 Light Hall.
With her husband and laboratory co-director, Jonathan Seidman, Ph.D., she has identified gene mutations that cause dilated cardiomyopathy and congenital heart malformations. They and their colleagues use model organisms to study how mutations affect the structure and function of the heart.
Seidman directs the Cardiovascular Genetics Service at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She and her husband, a professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School, are members of the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences.
