Music City Futurity hits $1 million mark

1/09/2009 - In its eighth year, an equine fundraiser has topped the $1 million mark raised for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt and the Nashville Ronald McDonald House.

The Music City Futurity is a nationally recognized cutting horse competition hosted by Barbara Brooks and her singer/songwriter husband, Kix. It combines shopping with horses, cows and top-notch riders from across the country.

Held in September, the Futurity became the largest western store in Tennessee during its nine-day run. More than 30 vendors offered items from clothing to tack, horse trailers, furniture and art, jewelry, boots and hats. A private Brooks & Dunn “All-American Barn Dance” for the riders and owners also featured a live auction.

This year's events raised more than $200,000, bringing the total to more than $1 million. The money has been split equally each year between Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.
