s, Lerner is best known for his work on converting antibodies into enzymes, an advance that permits the catalysis of chemical reactions considered impossible by classical chemistry. These “catalytic antibodies” have a wide range of applications as molecular tools for chemical synthesis and drug delivery, and as bactericidal agents.

Lerner's lecture, which is also the Ernest Goodpasture Lecture, is sponsored by the Department of Pathology and the Center for Matrix Biology.
