The Center oversees credentialing and fundamental to that process is initial and ongoing competency evaluation. The Center works in conjunction with Provider Support Services to ensure compliance with mandatory focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) and ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE).
The Joint Commission mandates focused and ongoing professional practice evaluation (FPPE/OPPE) for all privileged providers. FPPE occurs within a time limited period following initial appointment. OPPE (data analysis and reports) occurs thereafter at six monthly intervals within the two year appointment cycle and is designed to be reflective of meaningful competency validation related to privileged status. OPPE consists of both subjective and objective data, the analysis of which, informs the decisions made by the medical staff in the appointment/reappointment of clinical providers. Where competency issues are identified during the ongoing evaluation periods, a return to a time limited FPPE review may be warranted.
