Molecular Regulation of Breast Cancer Metastasis to Bone

Parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) is secreted by osteolytic tumors and can stimulate bone resorption. Our work focuses on regulators of PTHrP.

One factor that we have demonstrated to regulate PTHrP is the Hedgehog signaling molecule Gli2. Osteolytic tumor cell lines express Gli2 and overexpressing Gli2 increases tumor burden in bone and bone destruction. We are currently investigating the mechanisms involved in this regulation.
