Background
Dr. Recchia was recruited to Vanderbilt in 2003 for his expertise in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases. Trained at the top institutions in the field, Dr. Recchia brings a broad knowledge and surgical experience in the treatment of retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and pediatric retinal disorders. Dr. Recchia is a frequent lecturer at national and international meetings and serves as a reviewer for major ophthalmology and retina journals. He has written extensively and has co-authored a book on retinal diseases, eight book chapters, and over twenty journal articles. Believing that the best way to stay at the top of a specialty is to know the field well enough to teach it, Dr. Recchia directs the Vanderbilt fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery.
