The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA") provides comprehensive guidance for patients including their privacy rights concerning the use or disclosure of their medical information. These rights are described in detail in the Notice of Privacy Practices.
VUMC's Privacy Office and Information Security Office have teamed up to provide: answers and guidance for improving the privacy and security of the computing environment and; maintain compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements regarding the creation, processing, storing and transmission of VUMC confidential information including protected health information.
We have created pages for patient and visitors as well as pages for our faculty and staff. The Notice of Privacy Practice Page and the HIPAA at VUMC Page highlight the patient's right for privacy and is open to all. The Privacy Office and Information Security Page are for our staff and faculty.
We invite you to take the time to review our site. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Privacy Office @ privacy.office@vanderbilt.edu.
