All staff, faculty, students, volunteers, and contractors working with Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) receive training on privacy and information security, including HIPAA regulations and related VUMC policies upon hire and annually thereafter. Newly hired staff will receive HIPAA Basic Training during Its Who We Are Orientation. This HIPAA Basic Training for new hires is also available through The Learning Exchange.
All staff and faculty are expected to complete an updated privacy and information security training module every year. The annual training module is automatically assigned and available in The Learning Exchange for employed staff in medical center positions. Students in the School of Nursing and the School of Medicine are assigned the annual on-line training requirement through their respective schools. Faculty are assigned the annual on-line training requirement as a component of their annual orientation and training profile.

Managers who have staff who do not have access to computers to complete the online training may use the PowerPoint version of the appropriate training module. Also, workforce members who are not employed by VUMC may use this version.
