Vanderbilt Clinical Oncology Research Career Development Program (VCORCDP)

 

A training and career development program is available to all residents, fellows and junior faculty in the Divisions of Hematology/Oncology, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Surgical Oncology and the Department of Radiation Oncology.  This program is designed for physicians interested in a clinical oncology research career with an emphasis in an academic-oriented environment.  The Vanderbilt Clinical Oncology Research Career Development Program (VCORCDP) is funded through the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) K12 training grant mechanism. 

 

Program Goals and Objectives

 

The goal is to prepare physicians for academic clinical oncology research careers.  Objectives are:

 

To effectively prepare clinical oncologists in collaborating with a team of multidisciplinary clinicians and basic/behavioral scientists in order to facilitate the translation of basic/behaviorial information into patient-oriented research.

 

To prepare clinical oncologists in the design, implementation and evaluation of innovative clinical protocols that are scientific and hypothesis driven with the goal of improving medical care of cancer patients.

 

To prepare clinical oncologists in the design and implementation of all phases of clinical trials research including the management of Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III research.
