Tools of the trade

• first and foremost - a sharpened brain, then
• a reflex hammer
• pen light
• stethoscope
• tongue depressors
• safety pins - dx small v large fiber neuropathies 
• pocket visual activity card (i.e. Snellen chart)
• ophthalmoscope
• tuning fork (128 Hz)
• cotton swabs or saline "bullets"
• soap and or coffee beans in a small container (for testing smell)

Procedures

Students rotating through Clinical Neurology should perform:

• Two lumbar punctures, if possible, under the supervision of the Neurology resident or attending
• Funduscopic examinations on all the patients they admit and present during attending rounds
