Internships

 

 

The Center for Health Services welcomes undergraduate, graduate, and medical students who wish to gain professional skills and work experience.  Interns may choose to work with one CHS program or with several.  All CHS interns work with program directors. 

Some internships come with a living stipend.  Interested students should contact program directors or the CHS director.    

 

What to expect from a CHS internship…

 

With CASTLES:

  • Grant writing.
  • Supervision of 8-10 employees.
  • Elementary classroom experience.

 

With the Coalition for Healthy Aging:

  • Philanthropy research.
  • Health screening training.

 

With STEP:

  • Environmental research.
  • Community organizing.
  • Environmental field study.

 

With the Shade Tree Clinic:

  • Medical profession exposure.
  • Health screening training.
  • Medical interview skills.

 

With coursework in Community Health Research:

  •  Academic credit: enrollment in MHS 235, Community Health Research, required.  See course description here, and apply here.
  • Grant writing.
  • Experience with nonprofit focus groups.

 

With the Family Resource Center:

  • Community leadership networking.
  • Event coordination.
  • Social work with diverse and/or international populations.

 

With MIHOW:

  • Grant writing.
  • Curriculum design.
  • Assistant supervision of program sites.

 

With Emphasis (Vanderbilt Medical School community health track):

  • Lead outreach for a major community health program.
  • Grant writing.
  • Community surveys, focus groups, and interviews.
  • Opportunities to publish.
