The Center's Story
The Center for Health Services (now the Center for Community Health Solutions) has been Vanderbilt University's social outreach center since 1972.
In 1969, a Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University students formed the Appalachian Student Health Coalition. The ASHC brought medical care to rural Appalachia, and became the Center for Health Services (CHS).
Over the last four decades the CHS has involved students and volunteers from Vanderbilt, Meharry, and universities throughout the country.
