The Vanderbilt Coalition for Healthy Aging
Programs
Companionship Outreach
The VCHA provides access to social engagement and companionship because a healthy senior is engaged and active in the community. Programs include Comfort Callers, which pairs individuals with lonely or home-bound seniors for weekly calls, and structured one-hour social activities at senior residence towers.
Senior Women's Breast Health Initiative
The Senior Women’s Breast Health Initiative educates seniors about breast cancer risk, breast self-exams, and affordable mammograms. This is achieved through workshops that stress early breast cancer detection in rural Nashville-area communities.
Senior Fitness & Nutrition
The VCHA brings free nutrition classes and seated, low-impact, arthritis-sensitive exercise sessions to 16 Nashville senior centers and housing facilities. Instructors help seniors create and maintain wellness goals.
Young Women's Health
The VCHA leads age-appropriate health and breast cancer discussions in Middle Tennessee middle schools, high schools, universities, and youth programs. Breast health and body awareness workshops; cervical and ovarian health and menstruation education; and other activities promote overall health.
