Nursing Continuing Education/Contact Hour Process

Contact Hour Process and Eligibility

Nursing Education and Professional Development can guide you through the process of planning and executing an event that provides Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Contact Hours to the Vanderbilt nursing community.  We have compiled information to steer you through the entire CNE process—from eligibility requirements, writing the objectives, to planning your event, to completing the appropriate CNE forms and summaries. We will guide you every step of the way.

Contact Hour Process Step by Step

To develop a CNE event:

  1. You must submit a contact hour request form.
  2. The request form is to be submitted 45 days prior to the proposed event date.
  3. It may take up to 5 business days to process your request form.
  4. Your program request is reviewed for eligibility by the Primary Nurse Planner.
  5. Upon approval, a Nurse Planner will be assigned to your CNE event and the Nurse Planner will work with you to provide oversight as required by the TNA, and he or she must be involved in all steps of the planning process.
