It is our mission to promote a culture of wellness, providing for physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological health by developing and promoting educational programs, initiatives and resources relating to mental health and substance abuse for all faculty members within the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Goals & Objectives:
The Mental Health and Substance Abuse Awareness Committee will contribute to the goals of the Faculty and Physician Wellness Committee by:
1. Addressing current needs and developing educational programs around the topics of substance abuse and mental health.
2. Contribute to the body of literature around mental health and substance abuse among health care providers.
The committee members will:
a. Assess the needs of medical students, house staff and junior/new faculty at Vanderbilt with regards to mental health and substance abuse.
b. Improve awareness and utilization of available resources at Vanderbilt and in the region
c. Increase educational opportunities for students, residents and faculty covering mental health and substance abuse.
d. Develop, implement and publicize current and new educational training programs for leaders.
e. Contribute to the scholarship of educating health care professionals about mental health issues and substance abuse within the health science professions.
