Facial Clefts

The Vanderbilt craniofacial surgery team sees a large number of children with facial clefts. These children have difficulty with feeding and speech, and, often, their appearance is severely affected.

The reconstruction of the bony and soft tissue is of primary importance, not just to correct the functional deformity, but to minimize the psychological trauma associated with such a deformity. Clearly, early repair of facial clefts is imperative for the health and well-being of the child.
