Any graduate of an ADA accredited dental school is eligible to apply for a position in the Vanderbilt OMS program. The selection process emphasizes past academic performance, personal attributes such as a sound work ethic, dedication, honesty, and a demonstrated commitment to post-graduate training in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The latter may be demonstrated through completion of one or more OMS externships each of at least two (2) weeks duration. Letters of recommendation are required and specified by the PASS application information for this program. Such letters are very carefully reviewed and should be provided by dental school faculty who can share personal knowledge of the applicant’s qualifications, commitment, personal attributes, and accomplishments.
The Vanderbilt program is participating in the American Dental Education Association Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS). Applications are available online at www.ADEA.org or you may contact PASS in writing (1400 K. Street, NW. Suite 1100, Washington, DC 20005) to request an application. The 6-year PASS Program Code is OMS 263. The 4-year PASS Program Code is OMS 282. The completed application forms must be returned to PASS by October 1, 2013. The most qualified applicants will be invited for a personal interview in early November 2013.
The Vanderbilt program will also be participating in the 2013-2014 Residency Matching Program sponsored by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Information regarding the postdoctoral matching program may be found on the Internet at the following address: www.natmatch.com/dentres. The 6-year Program Code is 2121.
