Dr. Richard Shin joined the Vanderbilt Division of Orthodontics in 2012. Prior to his appointment here, he was in private practice in Southern California. Dr. Shin specializes in phase 1 orthodontic treatment, cleft and craniofacial anomalies, surgical orthodontic procedures, adult orthodontics and the use of temporary anchorage devices.

Dr. Shin received his dental degree from the University of Otago in New Zealand. After working as a dental officer in Australia and New Zealand, he moved to the United States to continue his studies. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery and Master of Science from the University of Maryland, and completed his orthodontic residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Dr. Shin is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
