H. David Hall Scholarship

Honoring the Foundation of Oral Surgery at Vanderbilt

In 1995, residents and colleagues of H. David Hall, D.M.D., M.D., honored his legacy by establishing the H. David Hall Scholarship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Hall was chair of the department from 1968 until his retirement in 1996. A pioneer in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Hall was an ardent advocate for graduate medical education. He is credited with establishing one of the most respected training programs in the country, and trained more than 55 residents during his tenure. He died tragically in an accident in 2005. He is survived by his loving wife Kay, who remains committed to the program.

Paving the Way for Future Generations of Oral Surgeons

The scholarship was designed to benefit those oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) residents participating in the six-year training program, which includes three years at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. This unique program offers our residents a complete and high quality medical education.

For more than 15 years, the H. David Hall Scholarship has provided vital financial support to offset the cost of medical education for residents on the OMS-MD track. It also funds the Annual H. David Hall Lectureship. All of our residents have the opportunity to present research papers and posters at the annual meetings of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS).

Your Support Matters

Existing in perpetuity, this fund will continue to make a positive impact on the oral surgery resident education program for generations to come. We are committed to appropriately stewarding past gifts to the Hall Scholarship while working to secure future support to increase the resources available for the resident education program.

To assist us in this worthy endeavor, please consider making a contribution to the H. David Hall Scholarship Fund. On this site, select "Other" and type in H. David Hall Scholarship in the "Description" box. Your support is invaluable and greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Lectureship

Each year, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery hosts the H. David Hall Lecture commemorating the legacy of Dr. Hall. The lecture series provides a venue for the profession’s top clinicians and academicians to share their knowledge with residents, faculty and alumni, as well as colleagues within the community.
