Vanderbilt department of Plastic Surgery
Dr. Shack joined Vanderbilt in 1982 and was appointed chairman of the department of Plastic Surgery in 1997. His leadership responsibilities include overseeing the third-year medical student lecture series, and resident training in the operating room and ward. He also serves as faculty advisor for third- and fourth-year medical students interested in pursuing surgery.
He is currently president of the Southern Medical Association (SMA) and past president of the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the Nashville Surgical Society, the H. William Scott Society, and the J.B. Lynch Society. He has served as vice president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
