Infection Control Goals

Infection Prevention

The Environmental Services Team works closely with the Infection Control Department to put systems and procedures in place to lower the risk of infection across the hospital. The EVS Staff are trained and measured against strict infection control standards. Infection prevention is the goal in all we do in EVS. As we partner with all VUMC staff, we realize that our important role not only supports the clinical work that takes place each day, but actually prepares the foundation for all patient care.

One long-term goal for EVS is to begin a micro-fiber mopping system/procedure that will go a long way in eliminating the level of harmful bacteria on all surfaces. This process, along with other methods and practices we use, work to lower the risk of infection across our hospital campus.

EVS staff are trained and equipped to do their work as full infection control/prevention professionals. Each EVS team member is focused on how to do their tasks with "infection control" in mind. We are proud to work closely with Vicki Brinsko and the Infection Control Team to set high standards of care for our patients and colleagues.

Our 7-step cleaning method supports and helps facilitate a thorough cleaning in all areas of the hospital. That 7-step process includes:

  1. Remove trash and clean container with approved disinfectant

  2. High Dust all areas above shoulder level

  3.  Damp wipe everything with disinfectant to include wall spotting

  4. Dust mop floor

  5. Clean the restroom and re-stock supplies

  6. Damp mop floor surfaces

  7. Inspect all work
  8.
