![]() | Mike Jolley Director of Operations Mike's has been on staff with VUMC EVS since February 2007 and his experience in Healthcare goes back to 1988 where he worked for two large hospital support contract companies, to incude working at Duke University Medical Center, University of Illinois at Chicago, North Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson Madison Medical Center and John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. Mike's leadership experience includes directorship over operations in comprehensive and diverse healthcare settings. Mike came to VUMC after managing an operation at a major trauma hospital (467 beds) where he reorganized new and improved EVS systems and processes. His education spans several years in various business-related fields at various universities. Mike's hobbies include: golf, hiking, Nascar, and riding the Natchez Trace on his Harley. What many people do not know about Mike is that he was once an air traffic controller in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. Mike also has two sons in the military. |
![]() | Jeff Smith 2nd Shift Operations Manager Jeff has a long track record of success in the Environmental field. He has been a key player in the design and development of many healthcare EVS departments, to include Duke University Hospital, and most recently in Knoxville, TN, where he was the Director of Environmental Services. Jeff leads our 2nd shift staff wisely. Since our 2nd shift staff deals primarily with project work, as well as maintaing the processes from the 1st shift, Jeff has to plan coverage for our 1.5 million square feet of space at VUMC. Jeff has been responsible for the re-tooling of our processes, and most recently contributed greatly to our new floors in the VUMC lobby. Jeff's rapport with his staff is amazing. Each of his supervisors are well prepared and trained to respond to the many tasks they face each day. Jeff is a key leader on our team, and his gifts and strengths are making a significant difference in how we do business each day. |
![]() | Marshall Grotewiel 3rd Shift Operations Manager Marshall came VUMC EVS from Stonecrest Hospital in Smyrna where he was the Director of EVS for 5 years. Marshall has made significant contributions for the VUMC EVS department since his arrival, and oversees the 3rd shift EVS staff. Marshall has improved our quality in all areas of the hospital campus, especially in the areas of the OR and the ED. Marshall's team consitenty keeps our OR quality scores at 95% or higher - which is a great example to the team. Marshall also brings strengths in the area of people development to the EVS Team. His attitude toward quality has inspired his staff to raise the bar on infection control and on efficiency. |
![]() | Tonzia Brown 1st Shift Asst. Manager Tonzia has been with VUMC for over 27 years. Needless to say, her depth of knowledge and attention-to-detail has been valuable to the EVS Team. Tonzia has a depth of respect among her team that is an example to each of us. She also brings a spirit of fun and joy to the job each day. Tonzia keeps her focus on quality and efficiency in all she does. She is considered a leader among her peers |
![]() | Jeremy Haynes 1st Shift Asst. Manager Jeremy recently joined our EVS Team. He came to us from Baptist Hospital where he supervised a large group of staff. Jeremy has a great deal of energy and a high level of operational experience. He understands the unique and complex nature of our many tasks, and he can teach others how to work efficiently in any situation. Jeremy is a valuable addition to our EVS Team |
![]() | William Lee 1st Shift Asst. Manager William came to EVS this past year from a successful healthcare operation in East Tennessee. As a former football star with Western Kentucky University, William's ability to plan and follow-through on our day-to-day game plan has contributed to our success. William has strong experiences in employee development and operational planning. William is an important part of our total team initiatives, and his insight into the details of our operation have been valuable to us. William and his family live in the Nashville area. |
![]() | Dorothy Hassell 2nd Shift Asst. Manager Dorothy is responsible for a large team of Infection Control professionals on the 1st shift. She has a long track record of success at VUMC, and she has an attitude of hard work and a focus on efficiency in our department. Dorothy also has a unique way of motivating her staff to get more done than most would expect. She is always on the go and in spite of her busy schedule, she still finds time to learn and grow. Dorothy is motivated by learning and developing her own skills and abilities. |
![]() | Darlene Sharfner 2nd Shift Asst.Manager Darlene is a native Nashvillan and has worked in housekeeping for 23 years. She was a supervisor at Opryland for 17 years. Darlene was a Training Supervisor for 3 of those years and then joined the Vanderbilt team 6 years ago. Darlene has a certificate in Secretarial Administration and also is certified as a Hospitality Supervisor. She worked for Representative Pruitt at Legislative Plaza in downtown Nashville. Darlene has 3 children and 5 grandchildren who keep her time away from work very busy. |
![]() | Evelyn Brown 2nd Shift Asst. Manager Evelyn came to VUMC EVS from Centennial Medical Center where she served as an EVS Supervisor for Women's Hospital. Evelyn has a tremendous depth of knowledge in the operational side of EVS and has a great reputation among her peers. Her eye for quality has really raised the bar on the cleanliness of the 2nd shift at the hospital. Evelyn has also brought a strong sense of work ethic and determination to her work in EVS. |

![]() | Charles Taylor 3rd Shift Asst. Manager More to come on Charles soon Charles Taylor's first real job experience was working for avco-textron aero-structures company where he built airplane wings for B-1bombers,C-5 and C-130 Cargo planes, as well as parts for the space shuttle and British Airlines. After his aeronautical career he went to work for a friend at A&K JANITORIAL, where he learned how to do floor care and industrial cleaning. He eventually acquired his own cleaning company, K&K CLEANING SERVICE. In 2002 he came to Vanderbilt Hospital. Charles worked in the E.R. cleaning rooms under the supervision of Freddie Milliken and Randall McFarland. His goal was to prove to them that he knew more about floor care than they did. A few months later he became a floor tech. That soon led to an opportunity to become a lead tech, and shortly thereafter was promoted to Supervisor. Charles also served as a 3rd shift manager for a short while. His experience at Vanderbilt has been interesting, as well as a meaningful learning experience. Charles sums up his purpose for being here this way: "My commitment to Vanderbilt is rooted in my concern for the welfare of our patients." |
![]() | Lea Robbins 3rd Shift Asst. Manager Leah has had 18 years in the Hospitality Industry prior to coming to VUMC. All but the last 8 months of that time was in the hotel side of hospitality operations. Leah has been a Housekeeping Director for 17 of these years. While living in California, she owned her own commercial cleaning business called the Dust Busters where she serviced private homes and commercial accounts across the state. Leah has her CHHE certification and has attended numerous training seminars for floor care and quality control. She also sang in a show band for 17 years, while touring across the country. She shares her passion for music with her family and friends as often as she can. Leah brings a strong sense of quality to our operation and her rapport with her staff keeps them motivated and inspired. |
