Ophthalmic Imaging FAQ for Physicians

What is the turnaround time between imaging and receiving the report?
In most cases, reports are generated Monday through Friday within 24 hours of receipt of the digital screening images.

Are there special criteria for patients to be screened?
Although this process is capable of identifying lesions not typically associated with diabetes, the screening process is validated only for people who are known to have diabetes mellitus. In addition, our screening is intended for those who do not customarily obtain retinal screening from their own ophthalmologist.

How can I obtain the services of the VOIC for my patients?
The VOIC is able to screen patients for sight-threatening diabetic eye disease in two ways: either through fixed camera sites or via a mobile screening service. To ascertain the feasibility of delivering our services to your patients, please contact us: lawrence.merin@vanderbilt.edu
