Vanderbilt University and VUMC were ranked in Fortune magazine's top 100 companies to work for in 2009. Vanderbilt University and VUMC combined make up the largest private employer in Middle Tennessee, with approximately 19,700 employees (over 870 of which are house staff).
Vanderbilt treats 300,000 unique individual patients each year.
Vanderbilt again makes U.S. News & World Report ‘honor roll’
7/17/2009 - Vanderbilt Medical Center maintained its honor roll status for the second straight year by placing 16th in the nation in U.S. News & World Report's 2009-10 publication of America's Best Hospitals... To be eligible for the honor roll an institution is required to have high rankings in at least six specialties. Nine VMC specialty programs ranked among the top 50 in their respective fields, including Kidney (9), Urology (10), Cancer (13), Diabetes and Endocrine Disorders (15), Gynecology (16), Ear, Nose and Throat (16), Heart and Heart Surgery (17), Respiratory Disorders (18) and Digestive Disorders (32).
Six Children’s Hospital specialties ranked among best in U.S. News & World Report
6/19/2009 - The Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt has been ranked among the top 25 in the nation in six pediatric specialties by U.S. News & World Report... Children’s Hospital was ranked sixth best in the United States in Urology in the annual listing of America’s Best Children’s Hospitals. The hospital also was ranked No. 13 in Neonatology; No. 21 in Digestive Disorders; No. 22 in Orthopaedics; No. 23 in Heart and Heart Surgery; and No. 25 in Cancer.
Vanderbilt Medical Center is among the nation's 100 "most wired" hospitals and health systems, according to the 2009 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study, conducted by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine.
VMC was recognized for the first time among the top 100 U.S. hospitals that are setting the nation's benchmarks for cardiovascular care in a study by Thomson Healthcare.
Vanderbilt University Hospital is constructing a critical care tower, which should be ready in November 2009. The 10-story, $169 million tower will house 141 acute-care beds and 12 operating suites.

1/09/09 - The Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt has been ranked No. 15 on a listing of best children's hospitals in the country by Parents magazine, the third national accolade earned in the past year.

The Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital is the only freestanding facility of its kind in Middle Tennessee. The 80-bed hospital provides both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services to children and adults who have suffered strokes, head injuries or have other orthopaedic or neurological diseases requiring varying formats of rehabilitation.
The Psychiatric Hospital at Vanderbilt, situated along Blakemore Avenue, is a full-service 88-bed psychiatric hospital. Specialized services are offered across all ages to children, adolescents, and adults.
More than 100 full-time and part-time Nashville Veterans Administration physicians have academic appointments at Vanderbilt. This leads to effective collaboration between the two campuses.
