Past Lab Members

Dario Gutierrez:  Dario earned his PhD in April of 2012.  He is now a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Rodewald at the DKFZ in Heidelberg Germany.

Mike Puglisi:  Mike completed his post-doctoral fellowship in the fall of 2010 and has been working as a dietetic administrator in a hospital in Brooklyn.

Bonnie Surmi:  Bonnie earned her PhD in November of 2009.  She is now on the faculty at the Tennessee Technology Center in Murfreesboro.

Alex Ristau:  Alex is currently a freshman at Denver University.  He worked in our lab over the summer of 2008 as a part of the Research Internship Program (RIP) and again in 2009 as a Research Intern. 

Nick Khoo:  Nick is currently a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Bruce Freeman at the University of Pittsburgh.  He worked on a joint project between our laboratories during the Spring and Summer of 2008.

Kimberly R. Coenen, PhD:  Kim earned her PhD in February of 2008.  The title of her dissertation was, "The effects of hyperlipidemia and toll-like receptor 4 on macrophage accumulation in adipose tissue".  Kim published 4 first author and 4 co-author manuscripts over the course of her time in our laboratory.  Kim is now a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Mac Buchowski at Vanderbilt University. 

Alli M. Nuotio-Antar, PhD:  Alli earned her PhD in April of 2007.  The title of her dissertation was, "11b-HSD1 in mice: expression is developmentally regulated in the thymus and activity is influential in metabolic outcomes".  Alli published 2 first-author and 1 co-author manuscript during her time in our lab.  She is now a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Larry Chan at Baylor University.

Michelle Plummer, MS:  Michelle earned her Masters degree in January of 2007.  The title of her thesis was, "Impact of high fat diet feeding on atherosclerotic lesion formation and white adipose tissue triglyceride storage in ob/ob and ob/ob;apoAI-/- mice".  Michelle's thesis was published as a first-author manuscript in The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.  Michelle was also a co-author on 2 other manuscripts.  Michelle is now a stay-at-home mom to beautiful daughter Kennedy.

Robin A. Atkinson:  Robin joined our lab as part of the IMSD program.  She remained in the lab for 2 years, and was a first author on 1 paper and co-author on another.  Robin is now a medical student in Memphis.
