Safety Fair

Safety Fair

The Safety Fair is held each year in the Spring and the Fall.  All staff are required to complete Safety Fair on an annual basis.  If you are hired between March 1st and September 30th, you should plan on attending the Spring Safety Fair, which usually occurs in February of each year.  Those hired between October 1st and February 28/29th should plan to attend the Fall Safety Fair. The Fall Safety Fair usually occurs at the end of September.

Most of the Safety Fair requirements can be completed on-line at http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/learning-center/programs.html

During the Safety Fair each nurse, care partner and nurse extern must be re-certified for point of care testing (POCT).  For lab type tests that are completed by the staff on the unit, such as hemoccult for fecal blood and Sure Step Flexx for blood glucose monitoring, the staff member must be certified on by the POCT area of the Hospital's laboratory services.  The recertification consists of the staff member printing out the study materials, pre-test and checklist for each test.  The staff member should read the study materials and complete the pre-test before going to the Safety Fair and should take all materials to the Safety Fair.  During the Safety Fair the staff member will complete the POCT using the supplies provided.
