The Vanderbilt Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Center, originated in 1998, with the enrollment of the first idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis patient in the Avonex placebo-controlled trial.  Since that time, our center has grown to become a novel center for patient education, healthcare, support, pharmaceutical trial options, and lung transplat.

The IPF Center, created by Dr. James Loyd, is now overseen by Dr. Lisa Lancaster.  The two, in addition to a nurse practitioner, a research coordinator, research nurse, and office administrator, provide the latest in healthcare options, educational needs, and research protocols for our patients.

The reputation of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the availability of lung transplantation for those who qualify, and the availability of a variety of pharmaceutical and government clinical trials are typical reasons why patients are referred to our Center.  Our patients encompass not only middle Tennessee, but western Arkansas, southern Indiana, western North Carolina, and northern Alabama.  The closest centers that provide similar provision are located in Denver, Cleveland, Durham, and Birmingham.  Our center represents one of the largest IPF referral centers in the nation.
