Dr. Lee Gorden's clinical interests include hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal surgery, and liver transplantation. He completed a Surgical Fellowship in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and liver transplantation at the University of Toronto in Canada prior to coming to Vanderbilt. His specific clinical and research interests liver malignancies including colon and rectal cancer metastases to the liver and primary hepatocellular carcinoma.
Dr. Gorden has also worked extensively as a surgeon with the International Surgical Team in Guatemala, and also in the rural Andes of Ecuador.

Dr. Gorden has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholar’s award to pursue research and clinical activities at the Paul Brousse Hospital in Paris, France working with Professor Henri Bismuth and colleagues during the year 2009.
In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Gorden is a member of numerous professional societies including, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society, the Society of University Surgeons, Association for academic Surgeons, American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and the Southeastern Surgical Congress. Dr. Gorden is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Research
Dr. Gorden's research is supported by K08 and R03 awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Additional grant support comes from the NIH digestive disease research center at Vanderbilt as well as the Discovery program at Vanderbilt. Dr. Gorden conducts basic and clinical research on tumor / stromal interactions in metastastatic and primary tumors of the liver.
