Lwala Community Clinic, Rongo Kenya: Providing primary health care and addressing HIV/AIDS in rural Kenya : Youth in Action for Lwala

This page will highlight work done by some of the college students, high school students, middle school kids and even kindergarten kids towards supporting the Lwala Community Clinic.

Jared and Ethan Friedland (both sons of Prof. Friedland Chair of Environmental Studies at Dartmouth College)

For Jared's 11th birthday on May 5th he requested that his friends donate money to the Lwala Clinic instead of buying him presents. His and the efforts of many such dedicated kids from the Upper Valley in New Hampshire helped us realize over US$ 3,000 last year. Jared's story has caught the imagination of a tv news reporter, Barry Simmons of Nashville Channel 5, who visited Dartmouth during the weekend of May 5th 2005 and interviewed Jared Friedland as part of a story on the Lwala Clinic project.

David Kim, rising senior Duke University

Travelled to Kenya this past summer to assist in conducting health surveys in Lwala Village in western Kenya. He is representing the Lwala group in Duke University. David Kim is involved in fundraising for Lwala Clinic at Duke University.

The CEO of Siena commerce has agreed to donate 25% of the sales from their online merchandise (cds, dvds etc) to the clinic. Please encourage family and friends to visit the website to buy items to support the clinic. http://www.sienacommerce.com/lwala Abbie will lead a group of 3-4 students on a trip to Kenya in the summer of 2007 to protect 2-3 water springs. The trip is being organized by the Vanderbilt Office of Active Citizenship and Services
