Vanderbilt University Medical Center serves Middle Tennessee and the surrounding areas as a referral and tertiary care center. The Medical center is dedicated to patient care, research and the education of health care professionals. It is the principal referral center for physicians and patients throughout the region. Vanderbilt Medical Center and its components are accredited by JCAHO and provide patient care to over 600,000 patients each year through inpatient and outpatient services. The Vanderbilt Hospital houses routine patient care, highly specialized medical treatment and surgical procedures. The hospital also houses the region's most comprehensive Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the only Level 1 Trauma unit in the Nashville area including a specialized Pediatric Emergency Department and a comprehensive burn center.
The Vanderbilt Diagnostic Laboratories operate 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week to provide accurate, timely test results to support the physicians in the assessment of the patient. The extensive laboratory test repertoire reflects the specialized services/programs at Vanderbilt and the Department's commitment to meeting the clinical needs of our patients.
