The majority of our MPB students enter the department via one of three programs:
- Interdisciplinary Graduate Program
- Quantitative & Chemical Biology Program
- Medical Scientist Training Program
Each of these programs is described at length on their respective sites. Briefly, they all involve core coursework and 4 rotations through laboratories of the student choice through 11 different basic science departments at Vanderbilt. Subsequent to completing these rotations, the students choose a laboratory and department. MPB is one of the departments that can be chosen through these 3 “umbrella” programs. The application process for these 3 programs can be found on their individual website.
A small number of students enter the MPB graduate program via a direct admit process. In most cases, these are students who already have a Master’s degree. Direct admits are arranged with a specific faculty member in the department, and must be approved by the Director of Graduate Studies, the Graduate Education Committee, and the Department Chair.
Information on our guidelines, course requirements, qualifying exams, current students, recent graduates, travel awards, and graduate student association can be found here.
